Features & Benefits
A turnip-like cruciferous root vegetable native to the Andean mountains in Peru,
maca is grown at altitudes of 14,000 feet where no other crops can survive making
a resilient plant incredibly rich in amino acids, phytonutrients, fatty acids,
vitamins and minerals.
Used
for centuries by native Peruvian for its remarkable health properties,
maca has been clinically proven in both men and women to help:
- Balance the hormonal system naturally
- Improve sexual function
- Increase energy
- Reduce stress
Balance hormones & Improve sexual function
Renowned for its hormone-balancing effects, maca has been
shown to optimize the hormonal system—without introducing foreign
animal, plant or synthetic hormones. Maca regulates the endocrine
system addressing hormonal imbalance and its associated symptoms in
both sexes to safely:
- Increase libido
- Improve sexual performance
- Alleviate menopause, PMS or andropause symptoms
- Forestall the hormonal changes of aging
Increase energy & reduce stress
Also called ”Peruvian Ginseng”, maca is a powerful adaptogen
that helps increase energy and stamina and improve the ability to
handle stress. Its remarkable benefits lie in its ability to naturally
nourish and rejuvenate exhausted adrenal glands serving to:
- Increase energy
- Reduce stress and its impact on the body
- Control cortisol levels
- Promote restful sleep
- Improve immunity
- Enhance mental clarity
What is an adaptogen?
A substance that produces a response in your body which
increases your power of resistance against multiple stressors.
Adaptogens have a normalizing influence on your body’s multiple
systems, improving both your physiological and emotional health.
Maca As Sexual Enhancer
Maca's ability to help restore libido is probably what it is
best known for. It is often described as an aphrodisiac for both sexes
and is clinically proven to improve sexual function in humans.
The
first known published human study on Maca's effect on libido and
fertility in men was conducted in Peru and published in the Asian
Journal of Andrology. Study data showed that Maca increased sexual
desire (libido) by 180% and increased sperm count by 200%. Other
benefits included increased sperm mobility, increased DHEA levels,
decreased anxiety and stress, lower blood pressure and a general sense
of well-being.
In
the prestigious medical journal Urology (April 2000), scientists
studied the effects of Maca on rats with erectile disorders and low
testosterone levels. The Maca-fed group had an amazing 400% more
copulation than the non Maca-fed group. Rodents with low testosterone
levels demonstrated a significant increase in sexual activity,
indicating a possibility that men with low testosterone or erectile
dysfunction may experience improvement. In the studies, the more Maca
extract fed to the animals, the greater their strength, libido and
sexual function.
In
studies with rats, females given Maca showed significantly increased
Graaf follicles and other favorable endometrium characteristics, which
indicate a higher fertility level. Male rats had significantly higher
sperm production and motility rates than in control groups. The
effects were measurable within 72 hours of dosing the animals.
Maca As Hormonal Regulator
The
most exciting news about Maca is that it helps nourish, strengthen and
balance the endocrine system of both sexes in the appropriate
gender-specific manner. Its action focuses on the
hypothalamus/pituitary axis, which in turn governs the intricate and
very delicate hormonal system of the body.
Not
only can the reproductive system be re-energized by Maca, but other
important glands of the endocrine system also benefit from its use.
Regular use of Maca can have a positive effect on the thyroid,
parathyroid, the pancreas and the adrenal glands. Maca has been know
to help with symptoms of hormonal imbalance, such as impotence,
infertility, frigidity, PMS, and menopausal hot flashes, safely and
naturally.
The
human hormonal system is extremely vulnerable and easily offset. Today,
many health practitioners are recommending Maca as a safe, natural
and effective way to alleviate symptoms of menopause (hot flashes,
vaginal dryness, mood swings and loss of libido) as well as good
insurance against osteoporosis.
Maca
works differently on the body compared to estrogenic herbs (e.g. black
cohosh) that are also used in treating symptoms of menopause. Instead
of introducing weak phytoestrogens into the body, Maca regulates and
balances the entire endocrine system, strengthening and toning the
reproductive glands to promote a heightened sense of well-being and
providing the body with higher levels of energy and vitality.
Recently
have we begun to see that men have a menopause of their own, known as
‘andropause.’ Characterized by a decline in testosterone or the
inability to use existing testosterone, some common symptoms
associated with andropause include low sex drive, impotence,
depression, irritability, fatigue, muscle loss and fat accumulation.
Like their female counterparts, andropause sufferers can benefit
greatly from the hormonal regulating effects of Maca
The
benefits of Maca seem to be for individuals of all ages. The herb
supports hormonal functioning in older and younger adults, and athletes
have been reporting increased energy and stamina in their workouts.
Maca is the natural answer for symptoms of hormonal imbalance!
